General FLSA Information

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is administered by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor (DOL). The FLSA covers minimum wage, overtime pay, hours worked, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments. The FLSA does not regulate:

  • Vacation, holiday, severance, or sick pay
  • Meal or rest periods, holidays off, or vacations
  • Premium pay for weekend or holiday work
